RSVP: Think Wood Mobile Tour Launch Reception

We are proud to announce that our carefully crafted Think Wood Mobile Tour, provided in partnership by the Softwood Lumber Board, US Forest Service, the US Endowment for Forest Communities, the APA – The Engineered Wood Association, and endorsed by the National Building Museum, is hitting the road later this month. Please join for us for  hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and a brief program from our special guests Congressman Bruce Westerman and Susan Jones on Tuesday, October 22 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM ET.

Think Wood is inviting developers, architects, engineers, contractors, material industries, and forestry associations to our launch reception being held in conjunction with National Forest Products Week, in acknowledgement of the impact of forests and wood products on our communities.

About the Think Wood Mobile Tour

The Think Wood mobile tour is a beautiful and compelling museum-quality display that showcases the environmental and economic benefits of different softwood lumber and engineered wood products and their many uses in both residential and commercial construction. The traveling exhibit features a variety of interactive elements, props, and models telling the wood story from the forest to the market.

The tour is provided in partnership by the Softwood Lumber Board, US Forest Service, the US Endowment for Forest Communities, the APA – The Engineered Wood Association, and endorsed by the National Building Museum.

About Our Special Guests
Congressman Bruce Westerman

SLB_CongressmanBruceWesterman_MobileTourReception_2019U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman is a Hot Springs native currently serving his third term as representative from the Fourth District of Arkansas. Having first been elected in 2014, Westerman serves on the Committee on Natural Resources and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, where he is Ranking Member of the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee. Westerman also serves on the Minority Whip Team under the leadership of House Minority Whip, Steve Scalise.

Prior to serving in Congress, Westerman was elected to two terms in the Arkansas General Assembly, where he was the state’s first Republican House Majority Leader since Reconstruction following the 2013 GOP takeover of the Arkansas House of Representatives.

An engineer and forester by trade, Westerman worked for 22 years at Mid-South Engineering in Hot Springs. He was named Engineer of the Year by the Arkansas Society of Professional Engineers in 2013.

A 1990 graduate of the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Westerman was a four-year walk-on member of the Razorback football team. He was awarded the Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 2005 and the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2012. Westerman is also a graduate of Yale University, earning a Master of Forestry degree in 2001.

Westerman lives in Hot Springs with his wife, Sharon, and their four children. He enjoys hunting and fishing.

 

Susan Jones

SLB_SusanJones_MobileTourReception_2019Susan Jones, FAIA, LEED BD+C, is a practicing architect and founder of atelierjones, an architecture, urban, and eco-design firm. Founded in 2003, the fourteen-year-old firm’s work entwines design, research, and community engagement to create projects of urban reclamation of: sites, buildings, materials, waste, and ways of living. Susan’s work has been recognized by numerous national, regional, and local design awards. Licensed in multiple states, she has been a visiting design professor and critic at numerous universities and is an Affiliate Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Washington.

Susan earned her BA from Stanford in Philosophy and her MA from the Harvard GSD in 1988. She became a Fellow of the AIA in 2010 and has been working for architects since she was sixteen.


Susan is known nationally as an expert on Mass Timber buildings and is currently serving a 2016-2018 appointment on the International Code Council Ad Hoc Tall Wood Building Committee to provide expertise on integrating Mass Timber into current building codes as well as updating current building code to allow for taller wood buildings.
